Carl Andre is renowned for his minimalist art, characterized by his use of simple geometric forms and industrial materials. His work frequently features regular, repetitive shapes that highlight the inherent properties of the materials. This candelabra pays homage to his minimalist aesthetic.
Remembering Carl Andre
Andre’s sculptures often consist of basic geometric forms arranged in a deliberate, non-hierarchical manner. The rectangular shapes of the candelabra resonate with his minimalist approach, reflecting the same principles of simplicity, clarity, and the emphasis on form.
The choice of Belgian Bluestone for the candelabra directly references Andre's Belgicube series, where he utilized the standard forms in which any contractor could order them from a quarry.
For the making of this object, we worked closely together with the skilled artisans of Atelier Anthony Cognaux, master stone masons.
