TwentyTwenty

In the 1920s, a wide array of opal glass shades was introduced on the market, meticulously crafted to align with the basics and the demands of Scientific Lighting and the ideology of Modernism, Form follows Function. Despite all functional requirements, these shades bore the artistic imprint of Art Deco, boasting shapes of exquisite beauty.

A century later, these timeless glass shapes serve as the foundational inspiration for the TwentyTwenty Collection. Paired with newly designed fittings, a myriad of typologies and combinations are made possible, ushering these classic shades into a contemporary context. A polished brass ring elegantly unites two distinct glass shades, resulting in the inaugural object of the collection: a floorlamp.

For ÆTHER/MASS, collaboration multiplies what is possible by getting access to the skills that have been mastered by others. For the making of this object, we worked closely together with Wim Roggeman, a master “lustrier” who is specialised in high-end bespoke lighting.
