TwentyTwenty

Æ//

In the 1920s, a wide array of opal glass shades emerged on the market, meticulously designed to meet the principles of Scientific Lighting and the Modernist mantra: form follows function. Despite their utilitarian purpose, these shades carried the elegant aesthetic of Art Deco, characterized by shapes of striking beauty.

A century later, these timeless designs serve as the inspiration for the TwentyTwenty lamp. By designing only a new fitting, the classic shades are reimagined in a contemporary context. A polished brass ring seamlessly unites two distinct glass forms, resulting in the inaugural piece of the ÆTHER/MASS collection: a floor lamp.

For the making of this object, we worked closely together with Wim Roggeman, a master “lustrier” who is specialised in high-end bespoke lighting.
